Thoughts on Happiness

March 24, 2015

Recently I had this realization that I depend too much on others for my happiness. The truth is, there is so much more to our lives than finding someone who will want us, or being worried that someone won't. There isn't time to mope around, being sad about the boy who doesn't text you back, or the friend who has decided not to care anymore. Your happiness should be the priority in your life. You  need to fill yourself with happiness and love. Not anyone else. Learn to be a whole being on your own. Learn to live for yourself and be happy on your own.

It is easy to become unhappy when the things that we had planned don't turn out the way we wanted, but trust that where you are right now in life is exactly where you need to be. Although times may be hard, life goes on and eventually gets better. The things that are meant to be will work themselves out. In the meantime, knowing that, there is no need to dwell on things that aren't working out the way we want them to. Everything will work out the way it should in the end.  It is perfectly fine to have no idea what you're doing. It is completely fine not to have a plan. It is okay to take things one day at a time. You are young and you have so much time.

Now, I'm not saying that you should lock yourself in your bedroom and never talk to anyone ever again. That's not what I'm talking about. What I am saying is: Don't rely other people to make you happy. YOU decide your happiness. You don't need a constant reminder from your best friend or your boyfriend that you are loved to know that you are. Know that you can be happy in a relationship or in a friendship, but that person should not be the only thing that makes you happy. Learn to depend on yourself. Know that being alone doesn't mean being sad. And know that another human being is not the only way you can be happy.
